Mark Minenko is a lifelong Liberal. His educational background and extensive experience in public service will ensure that your interests are represented in government. A lawyer for almost 40 years, Mark recently completed a doctorate in law at King’s College London, England and currently works as a legal historian studying the impact of emergency legislation on civil liberties. He was previously elected as an MLA and served as Deputy Speaker, assisting constituents, and introducing a provincial physically disabled parking law, which was passed.

A longtime resident of Twin Brooks, Mark and his family know what it means to live in Alberta today. Mark is married to his wife Roma, and their children attended George P. Nicholson and Louis St. Laurent, and the University of Alberta. Mark has an extensive and diverse record of community service: as the Confed Hockey Bantam Director, his work enabled young people to play community hockey; and as President of Citie Ballet, he made great strides to move the company to semi-professional status in Edmonton.

A son of Ukrainian Second World War refugees, Mark is a proud Ukrainian-Canadian and serves on the boards of the University of Alberta Kule Folklore Centre, the Ukrainian Pioneers Association of Alberta and several other organizations.

Mark is a military veteran and did not need the threat of tariffs to proudly wear the Maple Leaf on his shoulder, and in his heart. Having served more than 36 years as a medical reservist, Mark has assisted Canadians during natural disasters, served a tour as a peacekeeper in Bosnia, and has trained at the Pentagon.

As a member of City Council’s Historical Board, Mark brings unique insights about the negative impact which broadbrush zoning has on local neighbourhoods, aiming to preserve our historical past and share it with the citizens of the future. Mark understands the diversity and unique nature of the neighbourhoods which make up Edmonton Riverbend, and is excited to bring those voices to Ottawa.
